How long has Word Awareness, Inc. been in business?
Word Awareness, Inc. (formerly RML Language Services) was established in 2004 and incorporated in April 2009 in order to address an ever-demanding translation market. However, our director, Rafa Lombardino, has been working as a professional translator since 1997 and currently supervises every project that goes through our professional network of translators.
What are your qualifications?
At the company level, Word Awareness, Inc. (formerly RML Language Services) is a member in good standing of the Better Business Bureau, San Diego Chapter, and has a spotless record on Proz.com, a web community dedicated to language professionals in which our collaborators gave us a rating of 5 out of 5 and our clients left some really positive feedback.
At the personal level, our freelance collaborators take a test and have their resumes and references carefully checked before they become part of our team. Our linguists have been individually working as a translator into their native language for at least five years and come from diversified professional backgrounds. Besides, our director, Rafa Lombardino, supervises every project that goes through our network, keeping close contact with each linguist to assure that our client's expectations are met.
Rafa is also personally involved in several projects in any combination concerning English, Portuguese, and Spanish. She has been working as a professional translator since 1997, is an English into Portuguese certified translator by the American Translators Association (ATA) since 2007 and received a Professional Certificate in Translation and Interpretation (Spanish/English) by the University of California, San Diego Extension in 2008.
What are your areas of specialization?
We have been working with a wide variety of materials, including the following fields: computer and technology (websites, software interface, manuals and help files, tagged texts, and localization), news and advertisement (press releases, news clipping, product brochures, and ads), business and labor (corporate magazines and newsletters, business reports, contracts and agreements), human resources (employee handbooks, training materials, labor protection and safety), health, environment, and legal (personal documents, such as birth and marriage certificates and divorce decrees, as well as contracts and agreements, attorney statements, and court disputes between businesses).
Our director, Rafa Lombardino, personally works on projects related to computers and communication, having a Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences (Major in Data Processing) and Social Communications (Major in Journalism).

What are your rates?
Our rates depend on the following factors:
- original files — whenever we receive text files (.doc, .txt., .rtf, .xls, .htm, .html, .php), we can analyze them using a Computer-Assisted Translation tool to precisely have a report on the source word count. However, when working with hard copy files (printed documents sent by regular mail, faxed, or scanned and transformed into image files or PDFs), the source material cannot be analyzed in such way and we must use the final translation (the "target file") in order to have a valid total word count. In other words, we do not work with estimates.
- currency — we are currently able to accept US dollars, euros, or Brazilian reais.
- number of repetitions and matches to our language database — we analyze the original material with a Computer-Assisted Translation tool to have a very accurate report on the source word count. This report also shows us the percentage of repetitions throughout the text and the match index to our language database. In other words, the more you work with us, the bigger your discounts will get. This is especially true for technical fields, which materials present several repetitions of instructions or description of products.

What is your output?
Productivity depends on the technical difficulty of the original text (the more technical, the more research it will demand of our linguists) and our ability to work in pairs on the same project (according to each linguist's language pair and experience.) We usually translate 300 words per hour, which amounts to up 1,500 words a day to allow time for proofreading.
